There are a number of different pregnancy signs. Some are more probable than others but they are definitely signs to look out for – especially if you are trying for a baby. Here are just a few of the signs that could mean that you are currently expecting a baby.
A Missed Period
The most common of all pregnancy signs is the missed period. A missed period usually means pregnancy, although there are other reasons why a woman may not get her period on time, including stress and hormonal imbalances. It is important to take a pregnancy test to rule this out when a period has been missed.
Spotting
Of course, there are some women who believe that they have had their period but find out that they are pregnant at a later date. This is known as spotting and often occurs during the implantation process. Around 25 percent of women will have some bleeding early in the pregnancy and half of them will go onto having healthy and happy babies. This spotting is not a period – it is virtually impossible to have a period while pregnant.
Pregnancy Sickness
Another one of the common pregnancy signs is sickness. This can stretch from just feeling queasy to vomiting every day. Pregnancy sickness is commonly known as morning sickness but that does not mean that the vomiting will be limited to the morning. This is one sign that can happen morning, afternoon and even during the night. There are some great ways to limit the pregnancy sickness from happening and not all women will suffer from it.
Cravings
Cravings are also one of the common pregnancy signs to look out for. However, this is mostly common at later stages – especially for those who suffer from morning sickness. Cravings can be anything from healthy foods to items that are not foods. Craving non-edible items is known as pica and it is important not to act on it. There are some women who will crave sand and dirt, which is definitely not good for the baby.
Fatigue
Fatigue is one of the most common pregnancy signs and something that 99 percent of pregnant women will suffer from during their first and last trimesters. During the first trimester, this happens due to the increase of hormones and the amount of extra work that your body needs to do. During the third trimester, it is due to the extra weight that you will be carrying. It is normal to feel the need to fall asleep or nap during the day as well as sleeping longer at night.
Breast Changes
Changes to the breasts are other pregnancy signs to look out for. Some women will just notice that their breasts are getting larger and firmer, while others will suffer from tender and even sore breasts. This is linked to hormones and also the fact that the breasts are getting ready to produce milk for breastfeeding.
There are a number of pregnancy signs to look out for but each one on its own does not definitely mean pregnancy. If you suspect that you could be pregnant, then it is worth buying a pregnancy test and taking it.
