At four weeks pregnant, the level of hormones
in your body is likely to be high enough to test positive. Home pregnancy tests
have become extremely reliable and effective over recent years and there are
also some that will show how long ago you conceived. The placenta and amniotic
sac are starting to form at this point but the embryo is still in its early
stages.
The embryo will not show on a normal ultrasound
and is unlikely to show on an internal scan. This is due to the size of the
embryo, which is about the size of a mustard seed. Many women will not realise
that they are expecting a baby when they are four weeks pregnant but some will
have an idea and see some of the early pregnancy symptoms.
Layers of cells will form during this period.
These cells eventually become the organs, body parts and the nervous system.
There is a lot happening during the early stages of your pregnancy, which is
why many women suffer from tiredness for no reason.
The
Symptoms at 4 Weeks Pregnant
There is a lot happening when you are four
weeks pregnant. Your baby is growing and cells are developing rapidly. The
embryo is making its home in your uterus so that it can grow safely throughout
the next nine months. This hard work leads to a number of symptoms that many
women experience.
Cramping is one of the most common symptoms
during pregnancy week four. Some women experience mild cramps that are similar
to menstrual cramps and believe that they were not successful in conceiving
this time. The cramps should not become painful and there should be no heavy
bleeding or a fever or chills. If any of these happen, you should contact your
doctor immediately.
Spotting is also common during pregnancy week
four and is from the implantation. This should not be heavy and the blood
should not be bright red or have clumps in it. Most women who experience
spotting will usually find that it is not enough to line a normal sanitary
towel and is just pink or brown in colour.
Vomiting or nausea may occurring when you are
four weeks pregnant. This is called pregnancy sickness but is commonly referred
to as morning sickness. However, the majority of those who suffer from
pregnancy sickness will find that it occurs during 6 weeks. Not all women
suffer from morning sickness and you may be one of the lucky ones.
A frequent need to urinate can also happen
during the fourth week of pregnancy. This is due to a number of different
reasons, including the increase in hormones and the increase in blood flowing
through your body.
Changes
in You
The most common change at four weeks pregnant
is the fact that your period will not happen. This is when you will expect to
have your period and is the best time to do that initial pregnancy test. It is
unlikely that many other changes will occur, although weight gain is a
possibility if you retain water or due to the increase in hormones.
