22 Weeks Pregnant

At 22 weeks pregnant, you are getting closer to that third trimester. This is at 26 weeks so you only have four weeks to go! By now, you baby will weigh about 15 ounces and measures about 10.5 inches in length.

Your Baby’s Development at Pregnancy Week 22

This week, your baby is now concentrating on getting fatter. He or she is adding on more layers underneath the skin to help with controlling the body temperature on the outside world. This is also important for the development of the brain and nerves as all nerves cells are covered in fat layers to help with insulation.

The nose hasn’t completely developed yet but is getting there. The bridge is now developing. It is likely that your little one will have a “button nose”, which is adorable and practical as it helps your baby to breathe while feeding.

It’s likely that you are feeling a lot of movement by 22 weeks pregnant. There is still a lot of room though and it will depend on how your little one is lying. Don’t be too worried if you haven’t felt much yet. Your midwife will monitor for a heartbeat at every scan to let you know your baby is growing well.

Changes in You at 22 Weeks Pregnant

By pregnancy week 22 you will look and feel pregnant! There is no hiding it now! You may find that not only is your belly getting larger, but also your breasts, buttocks and thighs. All of this will help with your little one’s development. The weight will continue to add on and it is likely that you will gain between 10 and 20 extra pounds.

Have you had people wanting to touch your belly yet? It can be difficult to know how to deal with this. Some people like it – I hated other people touching me! I had a t-shirt that read “hands off the bump” to make it clear that I didn’t want anyone touching it. Another trick is to keep your hands over the bump when people talk about it.

Symptoms at Pregnancy 22 Weeks

You may have skin problems as 22 weeks pregnant. Some women find that they “glow”, while others find that they constantly have to deal with acne, oily skin or even dry skin. Blame the hormones for this. The best thing that you can do is continue to exfoliate and find a product that works for the new balance of oils in your skin to help. Use a gentle, oil-free cleanser several times a day to help.

Forgetting about things? Pregnancy brain will still strike – and it strikes even after the pregnancy! You may walk into a room and completely forget what you went in for. You may find yourself distracted easily and then forget what you were doing. If you find that it is really affecting you, write down everything that you need to do and as you think of something add it to the list.
